Moving the world of today for tomorrow’s airport

Maximizing cost-effectiveness and minimizing disruption to three heavily-trafficked interstate highways surrounding the airport.

Major U.S. airport

When a major U.S. airport planned to expand with new runways, taxiways, ramps, terminals, and parking, the owner of the property adjacent to the airport asked HHNT to help achieve his goal of providing millions of cubic yards of soil fill for the massive project. The primary goals were maximizing cost-effectiveness and minimizing disruption to three heavily-trafficked interstate highways surrounding the airport. The client developed a concept for delivering the millions of yards of soil via a conveyor system directly from his soil mines to the construction site on the airport property. The problem was not building a conveyor system, but how to obtain all the approvals and permits needed for this operation, from developing surface mines to transporting the soil over land, rivers, streams, and interstate highways.

Saving time and money

The client turned to HHNT to secure the permits required for this project. Our extensive experience in the regulatory environment of obtaining permits allows us to successfully navigate through the complex legislative language of government. HHNT was able to help the client identify what permits would be necessary to complete the project, in addition to invaluable consultation that saved time and money. We defined all required permits, and then obtained the dozens of various permits and approvals needed to keep the project on target. HHNT served as the project manager negotiating the permits, as the engineer preparing the permits, and as the compliance consultant helping to implement the permits. The project proved a complete success, following our client-in-the-lead model: The client had a great idea, and HHNT helped make it a reality. HHNT and the client solved the problem efficiently, effectively, and in a manner that withstood scrutiny from virtually every regulatory agency as well as the community around his facility.
